Mission Statement
To whom much is given, much is required! ALL SAILORS shall be committed to a work environment in which personnel are treated with dignity, respect, and are encouraged to develop to their fullest potential. NORMANDY’s function is to accomplish whatever mission is assigned. My philosophy is categorized into two simple tenets - (1) Take Care of Our Shipmates and (2) Accomplish the Mission. My intent is further explained below:
Taking Care of Our Shipmates. Truly, the greatest asset we have in our Navy is YOU! Leadership at all levels must know our Sailors thoroughly and ensure their needs and concerns are addressed.
-
Treat shipmates fairly with dignity and respect - Demand the same of them!
-
Lead by personal example…uniform appearance matters when developing first impression of
shipmates.
-
Insist on safety - on board and on liberty, accept nothing less.
-
Delegate when appropriate. Inspire and reward innovation.
-
Be punctual, on time for meetings, evolutions, and reports.
-
Find time for yourself and time to enjoy family - this requires proper planning and communication.
-
Use PQS to support your professional growth and advancement - my goal is to see you make rank.
-
Learn from mistakes…yours, mine, and others.
-
*Communicate with your boss. Let them know what’s going on onboard and at home.
-
Don’t compromise your integrity. Navy Core Values are minimum standards. Do the right thing.
-
Alcohol…Don’t let it determine your life or career. Moderation is the key. Zero
tolerance for illegal drugs, harassment or discrimination.
-
Nothing will substitute for an enthusiastic attitude! Smile and enjoy yourself, it is a Beautiful Day!
Accomplish the Mission. The Standard is Excellence! NORMANDY is a United States ship of war, and our contribution to her is to make her Combat Ready to respond to tasking in the defense of our nation for prompt and sustained operations from the sea. Everything that NORMANDY does will support the accomplishment of this mission. We must always exemplify and foster the guidelines listed below:
-
*Communicate - ensure everyone understands the tasks.
-
Do it right the first time; The cost for rework stinks! Use the approved reference.
-
Effective training is crucial. We will work to provide dedicated time on a routine basis to support
training. Train others to do your job. Training starts with the Work-center Supervisor, every day.
-
Think Teamwork. It’s the only way this combat team will be ready to execute.
-
Have pride in NORMANDY’s performance and appearance.
-
Commit to personal and professional growth. Don’t be the one to lower the standard.
-
Establish and maintain high standards of combat readiness and cleanliness.
-
Maintain fully operational equipment. PMS must be performed thoroughly.
You MUST always use the reference, and provide feedback if it’s incorrect.
-
Never walk by a problem or you have just lowered your standards.
-
Maintain Physical Fitness. It will be important when the going gets tough.
