USS Marinette is the first naval warship to honor the city of Marinette, Wisconsin and the third naval vessel to honor the community.
The first US Naval vessel named Marinette was a Natick-class large harbor tug (YTB-791) launched in April 1967 and assigned to the 5th Naval District, Naval Station Norfolk until she was decommissioned in 2005.
The second USS Marinette County (LST-953) was an LST-542 class tank landing ship launched in October 1944 and assigned to LST Flotilla 21 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. The USS Marinette County served in the Pacific theater as a troop and vehicle transport from June 1945 through the end of World War II. She was decommissioned in November 1946.
The name recognizes the contributions of her namesake town and the great shipbuilders who bring these ships to life, ensuring they are ready to accomplish mission tasking in support our nation’s maritime strategy.
