Cmdr. Janet Broome is a native of El Paso, TX and a 2006 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Information Technology. She has earned her master’s degree in National Security Affairs from American Military University.
A career Surface Warfare Officer, Broome’s shipboard assignments include Auxiliaries Officer aboard USS Dubuque (LPD 8), First Lieutenant aboard USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44), and Training Officer onboard USS Bataan (LHD 5).
Ashore, Broome has served as Training and Readiness Officer at CTF 52, Naval Science Instructor at the University of Kansas ROTC, Special Events Officer at the United States Naval Academy, and Operations Officer at Surface and Mine Warfare Development Center.
During her shore time at the Naval Academy, Broome volunteered for an individual augmentation to Afghanistan. She was the N1 for Provincial Reconstruction Team Kunar. She is also an Amphibious Warfare Tactics Instructor.
Broome’s personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medals, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medals, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
