Commander Rusty J. Williamson
A native of South Dakota, Commander Williamson graduated from Boston University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Physiology.
His previous sea-duty assignments include tours as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer on USS ESTOCIN (FFG 15) and following completion of nuclear propulsion training, as a Reactor Controls Division Officer on USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75). He later served as Operations Officer on USS MITSCHER (DDG 57) and as Reactor Electrical Assistant on USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 75). During these sea tours, he deployed four times to the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleets.
Ashore, he has served as an instructor at Surface Warfare Officers School Command in Newport, Rhode Island, and on the staff of Naval Reactors, as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director and speechwriter to the Director. He also served on the Joint Staff, J-8, Program and Budget Analysis Division as a Defense Resource Manager, and later as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director for Resources and Acquisition, J-8. CDR Williamson served as the Executive Officer onboard USS McFaul from August 2017 to January 2019.
Commander Williamson holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, graduating with honors from Boston University in 2007 and is a Joint Qualified Officer.
Personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He is also entitled to wear the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation (2 awards), Battle Efficiency Award (6 awards), Sea Service Award (4 awards), and various other unit, campaign, and service awards.
