A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Commander Steidle graduated in May 2006 from the Virginia Military Institute with a Bachelors of Art in English and received his commission through the NROTC program.
Commander Steidle’s initial sea tour was onboard the USS CARNEY (DDG 64) from May 2006 to December 2008. During this tour he completed a deployment with the HARRY S. TRUMAN Strike Group in support of operations in Fifth and Sixth Fleets. He then served as Training Officer in USS KLAKRING (FFG 42) from January 2009 to September 2010 where he completed deployments to both FOURTH and SIXTH Fleet Area of Operations.
As a Department Head, he served as Weapons Officer in USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54) from August 2014 to December 2015. He reported in January 2016 to Destroyer Squadron TWO and served as the Senior Readiness Officer (N7) until September 2017.
Ashore, Commander Steidle served as the Officer in Charge of the Counter Rocket Artillery and Mortar Detachment in Baghdad, Iraq attached to Task Force 1-174 and US Forces Iraq from September 2010 to December 2011. Following his tour in Iraq, he was an instructor at the United States Naval Academy in Seamanship and Navigation Department, while earning his Masters in Science in Organizational Leadership from Norwich University and JPME Phase One. He served as Afloat Training Group Norfolk’s as the Director of Topside Warfare from August 2017 to April 2019. Additionally, he served as the Deputy Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander, US Fleet Forces Command.
Commander Steidle’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various other unit and personal awards.
