CMDCM(SW) Ian Thompson
CMDCM (SW) Thompson hails from Japan. He graduated from Recruit training and Gas Turbine System “A” school in 1996.
Master Chief Thompson served in USS Comte De Grasse (DD-974) July 1997 until June 1998. His follow on tour was USS Deyo (DD 989) June 1998 to November 2003. While onboard USS Deyo he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist insignia and his Engineering Officer of the Watch qualification. Additionally he was advanced to Petty Officer First Class and served as the Leading Petty Officer for Main Propulsion Division.
Ashore Master Chief Thompson served as the Recruit Division Commander and with the Fleet Training Team at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill before reporting to USS Taylor (FFG-50). Onboard Taylor he served as the Command Oil King, MP Division Leading Petty Officer and Engineering Training Team coordinator. Following Selection to Chief Petty Officer in 2007, he served as Taylor’s “Top Snipe”.
Selected for advancement to Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2012, from October 2012 to September 2014, he served as a Material Assessor in DESRON 14 Logistics/ Material department. Following his selection to the Command Senior Chief Program, CMDCS Thompson graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy in October 2014 and CMC/COB course in November 2014. CMDCM Thompson was promoted to Master Chief onboard USS Milwaukee (LCS 5) serving as the Command Master Chief for LCS Crew 108 and USS Milwaukee silver Crew from December 2014 through April 2018. Currently CMDCM Thompson is assigned as the Command Master Chief for the USS Delbert D. Black (DDG 119).
CMDCM Thompson’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal (six awards) and various personal, unit, and campaign awards.
