Commander Luis Angel Gonzalez
Commander Luis Angel Gonzalez is a native of New York, holding a Bachelor’s in Government from Harvard University and a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of Minnesota. He was commissioned in 2001 via the Boston Consortium Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Unit.
Afloat, his division officer tours were as First Lieutenant in USS GONZALEZ (DDG 66) and Fire Control Officer in USS LABOON (DDG 58), followed by department head assignments as Chief Engineer in USS MOMSEN (DDG 92) and USS CHOSIN (CG 65), and having most recently served as Executive Officer in USS BULKELEY (DDG 84). Additionally, he served as Flag Secretary and Executive Assistant to the maritime battle-staff of Commander, Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO. He completed two deployments with ENTERPRISE Carrier Battle Group in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and NEW DAWN, one with NATO Standing Naval Forces – Mediterranean, another with ABRAHAM LINCOLN Carrier Strike Group conducting Theater Strategic Partnership in the Indo-Pacific, and most recently with HARRY S TRUMAN Carrier Strike Group in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
Ashore, Commander Gonzalez served as Associate Professor of Naval Science at the University of Minnesota and as N74 Engineering and Material Readiness Military Deputy and Gas Turbine Division Head at Surface Warfare Officers’ School.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (x4), Navy Achievement Medal (x2), and various unit and campaign awards.
