USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19), the “Ghost Gator!”, is the third of the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ships. Our mission is to embark, deploy, land and support a marine landing force. The ship was specifically designed to accommodate Landing craft, air cushion (LCAC) for fast troop movement over the beach and helicopters for troop movement, air support, and search-and-rescue movements.
USS Mesa Verde (LPD) 19 transports and lands Marines, their equipment and supplies, by embarked air cushion or conventional landing craft or expeditionary fighting vehicles, augmented by helicopters or vertical take off and landing aircraft. USS Mesa Verde supports amphibious, special operations, or expeditionary warfare missions through the first half of the 21st Century.
