Commander Samuel K. Train
A native of Virginia, Commander Train graduated from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VA Tech) in 2005, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in History. CDR Train holds Masters Degrees from Brown University (2010) and The U.S. Naval War College (2017). He is also a graduate of the Maritime Advanced Warfighting School (MAWS).
Afloat, CDR Train has served in USS CAPE ST. GEORGE (CG 71) as the Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and as the Main Propulsion Assistant, in the USS NICHOLAS (FFG 47) as the Navigator, and in USS HIGGINS (DDG 76) as the Weapons Officer and the Combat Systems Officer.
Ashore, CDR Train has served in the Surface Warfare Officers School as the Surface Warfare Officer Introduction course Lead Instructor. As the Flag Aide to the President of The U.S. Naval War College. Most recently, CDR Train has served as Naval Forces Europe’s Strategy Officer, an operational planner, and CAG for the Commander of U.S. SIXTH Fleet.
CDR Train’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Navy Achievement Medal with two gold stars, and various campaign medals and other awards. While assigned to USS Nicholas, he was the Commander Naval Surface Forces Shiphandler of the Year for 2009.
