LCS 23 is the first ship to carry the name of Cooperstown. She was commissioned in 2023 in New York City, NY. She is named after the dozens of National Baseball Hall of Fame members who have served in the Armed Forces since the Civil War. The National Baseball Hall of Fame recognizes 70 members who have served in the Armed Forces to include Yogi Berra, Ted Williams, Bob Feller and many more! USS Cooperstown is the 12th ship in the U.S. Navy’s Freedom-Variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), adding to the well-connected family of modern vessels efficiently designed for speed and agility that maneuver in shallow, coastal waters. Cooperstown arrived at her homeport of Mayport, FL in October of 2022. Shortly after her arrival, the Cooperstown crew began the demanding work required to prepare the ship for commissioning. Departing on April 29th, Cooperstown began her transit to New York City, New York for her official commissioning. On May 6th 2023, USS Cooperstown was commissioned by the Secretary of the Navy and ready to answer the call to defend freedom and democracy! Since then, the Cooperstown crew has worked hard on completing multiple certification events and proving itself as one of the tip of the spear warships in the world’s greatest fleet!
