Shield.
Red, white and blue are our National colors.  In this arrangement, they amplify the USS COOPERSTOWN motto, “AMERICA’S AWAY TEAM.”  The home plate shaped shield celebrates baseball, our national pastime, and alludes to the dynamic design of the Freedom-variant Littoral Combat Ship.  LCS 23 is the first ship to bear the name Cooperstown and honors 70 military veterans who are members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame located in Cooperstown, New York.  These particular veterans had their baseball careers interrupted in order to serve in conflicts ranging from the Civil War through the Korean War.

Crest.
The wreath adopts the first-named metal and color from the shield and blazon.  Four stars denote the four branches of the military represented by Hall of Fame veterans:  Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard.  The American bald eagle is fast and agile, symbolizing the highly maneuverable capabilities of the USS COOPERSTOWN (LCS 23). The homerun symbolizes the special bond between the ship’s crew and her namesake, the village of Cooperstown.

Motto.
The ship’s motto, “AMERICA’S AWAY TEAM,” evolved from remarks made by then-Secretary of the Navy, The Honorable Ray Mabus.  Secretary Mabus stated that Sailors and Marines seldom get to play a home game, since their missions take them all over the world.
Seal.  The coat of arms as blazoned in full color on a light blue oblong disc within a white designation band, edged with a red roped border and bearing the name “USS COOPERSTOWN” at the top and “LCS 23” at the base.
