History
Carter Hall I (LSD-3) (1943-1956):
The first Carter Hall was an Ashland-Class Dock landing Ship in the United States Navy first commissioned 18 September 1943 and decommissioned 12 February 1947. She was later recommissioned on 26 January 1951 and officially decommissioned 31 October 1969 and then sold for scrap 28 August 1970.
Carter Hall saw action in the pacific theater, supporting numerous campaigns, including the invasion landing at Cape Merkus, Arawe, New Britain in December 1943 and the Invasion of Aitape and Tanahmerah bay in May 1944.
After her recommission in1951, it joined that Atlantic Fleet, conducting various exercises in 6th fleet and the Mediterranean before returning to the Pacific Fleet in January 1955 where it remained in service for an additional 14 years before being decommissioned on 31 October 1969.
Carter Hall 2: LSD-50:
Was commissioned on 30 September 1995 and has been homeported at JELBC, Virginia. LSD-50 has been on numerous deployments to Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East and supported numerous humanitarian efforts.
