Command Master Chief Jeremy K. Byrd is a native of Citronelle, Alabama. He enlisted in the United States Navy on July 1, 1997, and attended Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. Following boot camp, he attended the Naval Technical Training Center (NTTC), Corry Station, Pensacola, Florida, for Electronic Warfare “A” School, graduating with honors in December 1998.
Master Chief Byrd’s sea duty assignments include USS Decatur (DDG 73) as an AN/SLQ-32A(V)3 Technician and Operator; USS Roosevelt (DDG 80) as the Operations Tactical Division Leading Chief Petty Officer; and Commander, Carrier Strike Group 12 (CCSG 12) as the Senior Enlisted Leader and N6/N39 LCPO aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), where he completed an around-the-world deployment.
His shore assignments include duty as an Electronic Warfare instructor at the Center for Cryptology, Corry Station, Pensacola; Lead Electronic Warfare Assessor at Afloat Training Group Mayport; and Command Senior Enlisted Leader and faculty for the Joint Command and Control Information Operations School at Joint Forces Staff College.
Master Chief Byrd selected into the Command Senior Enlisted Leader program in 2017. His Command Master Chief tours include the pre-commissioning crew of USS Hershel “Woody” Williams (ESB 4) from selection until February 2021; Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO SIX (HSC-26) from March 2021 to February 2024; and USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) from February 2024 to September 2025.
Currently, Master Chief Byrd is the Command Master Chief of PCU Bougainville (LHA 8), having reported in October 2025.
Master Chief Byrd is qualified to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS), Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS), and Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist (EIWS) insignia. His personal awards include the Joint Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), Combat Action Ribbon, and various unit, service, and campaign decorations.
Master Chief Byrd holds a degree in Applied Science from Excelsior College (2005). He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 148 (Green Group) in 2009, and the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat (CMC/COB) course (Class 206).
