Command Master Chief Stephanie M. Johnson is a native of Manhattan, Kansas. She enlisted in the Navy in June 2008 as a Gunner’s Mate, and has since earned her Associates in Military Technology Leadership from Thomas Edison State University.
Master Chief Johnson attended “A” school in Great Lakes, Illinois. She then attended “C” school for the Vertical Launching System in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She reported to her first command, Naval Station Norfolk, in October 2009 where she served as a groundskeeper.
Master Chief Johnson reported to her next command, USS BULKELEY (DDG 84) in June 2011, where she served as the Combat Missiles Leading Petty Officer. Following that she reported to DDG 116 THOMAS HUDNER Pre-commissioning Detachment in February 2016, where she served as the Leading Petty Officer. She then reported to the Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit Dam Neck in June 2017, where she served as the Vertical Launching System Leading Chief Petty Officer and instructor. After that she reported to CVN 79 JOHN F. KENNEDY Pre-commissioning Unit in August 2020, where she served as the G-2 Leading Chief Petty Officer. In May 2023 she was selected for the Command Senior Chief program and reported to 2d Dental Battalion as their first Command Senior Chief. In June of 2025 she was selected for Command Master Chief of DDG 127 PATRICK GALLAGHER Pre-commissioning Unit.
Her personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (1), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and other various personal and campaign awards.
