CDR Carroll is from Lusby, Maryland. He was commissioned in 2005 through the Naval ROTC program at The Citadel, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He also earned a Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies through the Naval War College in 2011.
His initial sea tour was on USS BARRY (DDG 52) as Auxiliaries Officer and First Lieutenant. He completed a deployment to the Mediterranean, where Barry provided air defense for Non-combatant Evacuation operations from Beirut, Lebanon as part of Joint Task Force-Lebanon. His second sea tour was as Navigator on USS O’KANE (DDG 77), deploying to the Arabian Gulf and Western Pacific. As a department head, he was the Chief Engineer on USS MCFAUL (DDG 74). His subsequent tour was as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of USS WARRIOR (MCM 10). While in command, WARRIOR earned the 2017 Battle E. He served as the Executive Officer of USS FORT WORTH (LCS 3). His most recent tour was as the first Commanding Officer of USS OAKLAND (LCS 24) Gold. While in command, OAKLAND Gold completed the first ever LCS Centric Surface Warfare Advanced Tactics and Training (SWATT), and their maiden rotational deployment to the Western Pacific.
Ashore, CDR Carroll was an Operations and Tactics analyst with Surface Analysis Branch for Evaluation and Reporting (SABER) at the Nimitz Operational Intelligence Center. He also taught Basic Navigation, Advanced Navigation, and Naval Warfare at the Naval Academy where he earned his qualification as Navy Craftmaster. He served as the Surface Desk Officer in Current Operations on the staff of Commander, U. S. Pacific Fleet. His most recent shore tour was Branch Chief for international engagements in the INDOPACOM Region, and Deputy Political Advisor at U. S. Space Command in Colorado Springs, CO.
He is currently serving as Chief Staff Officer, Amphibious Squadron SIX.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two), Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five), Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two), and various unit and campaign awards.
