A native of Peculiar, Missouri, CAPT Nathan Scherry graduated from the University of Central Missouri in 1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Arts Technology Management. Scherry attended Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL and earned his commission in 1999.
Scherry’s sea duty assignments include Strike Officer aboard USS ANTIETAM (CG 54), Navigator aboard USS HALYBURTON (FFG 40), Weapons and Combat Systems Officer aboard USS FARRAGUT (DDG 99), Executive Officer aboard USS GETTYSBURG (CG 64), and Commanding Officer aboard USS THOMAS HUDNER (DDG 116) and USS MIGUEL KEITH (ESB 5) Gold.
Ashore, Scherry served as Joint Operations Center Team Chief at U.S. Central Command in Tampa, FL and Qatar; Flag Secretary to Commander, U.S. SIXTH Fleet in Naples, Italy; Chief of Staff for Expeditionary Strike Group SEVEN in Okinawa, Japan; and Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy at the Pentagon.
He also earned a Master’s in Business Administration from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri and a Master’s of Science Degree in Systems Engineering and Analysis from the Naval Post-Graduate School in Monterey, California.
Scherry is currently serving as Commodore, Amphibious Squadron SIX.
His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (two awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Joint Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), and Navy Achievement Medal (five awards).
