Senior Chief Ellis, a native of Temple, TX, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and began his training at Great Lakes, IL, on August 11, 2003, completing the Airman Apprentice Training Course in November 2003.
His first assignment was onboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63), where he served from December 2003 to January 2007 in the V-3 Division of the Air Department. During this time, he was promoted to ABH3. In February 2007, he reported to the USS Boxer (LHD-4), serving in V-1 Division and promoted to Second Class Petty Officer. He was also selected as USS Boxer Sailor of the Quarter.
From 2011 to 2014, Senior Chief Ellis served as an instructor at NATTC Pensacola, teaching basic and advanced aircraft firefighting and salvage. During this tour, he was selected and accepted as a Chief Petty Officer. He then returned to the USS Boxer (LHD-4) as the V-3 Division Lead Chief Petty Officer. In 2018, he was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer.
In 2020, Senior Chief Ellis reported to NAS Meridian, serving as the Air Operations Department Leading Chief. In 2022, he joined the USS Makin Island (LHD-8) as the Air Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. He laterally converted to Command Senior Chief in 2025 and currently serves onboard USS Billings (LCS-15) as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4), and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He is qualified as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist, Afloat Training Specialist, and Master Training Specialist. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 219 Purple) and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat course (Class 51201).
