A native of the Pacific Northwest, Lieutenant Commander Artman graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2011 and earned a Navy commission through Officer Candidate School in the same year.
Most recently, Lieutenant Commander Artman served as N4 at AMPHIBIOUS SQUADRON FOUR. His Sea tours include USS HIGGINS (DDG-76) as Repair Division Officer, Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer, and Navigator. He served as Department Head aboard USS McFAUL (DDG-74) as the Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer. Ashore, Lieutenant Commander Artman was assigned as the Radiation Safety Officer for Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific, now known as the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC Pacific).
He has completed five deployments to the FIFTH, SIXTH, and SEVENTH Fleet Areas of Operation and his personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and service awards.
