Captain Rodolfo "Rod" Jacobo enlist in the Navy in 1990 serving on board USS FULTON (AS-II), USS KIDD (DDG-993), and USS
George Washington (CVN-73).
Accepted into the Enlisted Commissioning Program in 1998 and graduating from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He was commissioned Dec 2000, graduated from the Naval War College with a Master of Arts degree in Defense and Strategic Studies in 2013, and is a graduate of the Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS).
A career Surface Warfare Officer, Captain Jacobo’s operational assignments include: USS MAHAN (DDG 72) and USS HAWES (FFG 53) as Auxiliary Officer, USS BARRY (DDG 52) and USS NEW YORK (LPD 2I) as the Engineer Officer.
He served as the Executive Officer of USS OAK HILL (LSD 5I) before taking command of USS OAK HILL (LSD 5I), completing back-to- back Mediterranean and Persian Gulf deployments.
Captain Jacobo staff and joint tours include serving as a Naval Academy Professional Development Instructor, Action Officer for the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations· Expeditionary Warfare Directorate (OPNAV N95), and Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Operations Directorate (J39) where he earned his Joint Officer Qualification.
He completed a second tour on the Chief of Naval Operations’ Expeditionary Warfare Directorate (OPNAV N95) as the Future Ship Section Head and he recently completed a tour as the Chairman, Seamanship and Navigation at the United States Naval Academy. Captain Jacobo currently serves as Commanding Officer, USS BATAAN (LHD 5).
His decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and service awards.
