Commander Bruce Hallett is originally from Howland, Maine. He graduated from Maine Maritime Academy, Castine Maine in 2006 earning a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies. He also holds an M.S. in Homeland Security earned in 2014 from Pennsylvania State University.
Commander Hallett began his naval career as an Electronics Technician (ET). He joined the Navy in July of 1998. After graduating boot camp and completing his “A” and “C” schools he reported to the USS ASHLAND (LSD 48) in August of 1999. Selected for the Seaman to Admiral Program in 2003, Commander Hallett attended the Naval Science Institute and then commissioned through the NROTC program at Maine Maritime Academy in December of 2006.
Commander Hallett’s first sea tour, from 2007 to 2009, was as Combat Information Center Officer and Training Officer in USS OAK HILL (LSD 51). He served as Operations Officer from 2015 to 2017 in USS FORREST SHERMAN (DDG 98). He served as N3 (Operations Officer) from 2017 to 2018 in Destroyer Squadron Twenty-Two based in Norfolk, Virginia. Most recently at sea, he served as Executive Officer from 2022-2023 in USS DETROIT (LCS 7).
Commander Hallett’s first shore tour, from 2009 to 2014, was to NROTC Maine Maritime Academy in Castine Maine, as the Surface Warfare Instructor. Most recently ashore he served as a Maritime Operational Planner from 2019 to 2021 assigned to Commander Sixth Fleet in Naples, Italy.
Commander Hallett’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (Four awards), and various campaign and unit awards.
