CDR Brian Sims is a native of Lenexa, Kansas. He graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and was commissioned via the Naval ROTC program. He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
 
CDR Sims’s initial sea tour was aboard USS Sterett (DDG 104) as the Strike Officer with a follow-on Division Officer tour aboard USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) as Navigator and Operations Officer. He served as Operations Officer onboard USS Chafee (DDG 90) and Staff Operations Officer (N3) at COMDESRON NINE as part of NIMITZ Strike Group (NIMSG) completing deployments to the Southern & Western Pacific, South China Sea, Indian Ocean, and Arabian Gulf. Additionally, he served as N3 at Task Force SIX FIVE in Rota, Spain overseeing theater surface operations in the EUCOM AOR during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
 
His shore assignments include instructor duties at Surface Warfare Officer’s School Command in Newport, RI teaching Surface Navigation as well as being a Congressional Liaison for the Department of the Navy Congressional Appropriations Matters Office (FMBE) managing the Research, Development, Test & Evaluation portfolio. Currently he is serving as the Executive Officer on USS Marinette (LCS 25).
 
CDR Sims’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various other unit awards and campaign medals.
