 Hailing from Overland Park, Kansas, Commander Stephanie Smiros commissioned from the University of Kansas in 2009, graduating with Bachelors of Arts degrees in English and Russian. She earned a Master’s Degree in Diplomacy from Norwich University. 
 
At sea, she has deployed to 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleet areas of operation, serving as Electrical Officer aboard USS MCCAMPBELL (DDG 85), Damage Control Assistant aboard USS ANZIO (CG 68), and Chief Engineer aboard USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51). 
 
Ashore, she served as the Quality of Service Action Officer at Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair, Newport News; in OPNAV N4L as the Requirements Officer for Combat Logistics Force ships; in OPNAV N41 as the navy’s Additive Manufacturing program lead; and as an Engineering Assessor at Engineering Assessments, Atlantic.
