Captain Jiwan Mack, a native of Winston-Salem North Carolina, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the United States Naval Academy in 2000. He holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government as well as a master’s degree in Defense and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.
His assignments at sea include Auxiliaries and Electrical Officer on USS Doyle (FFG 39), Operations Officer on USS Kingfisher (MHC 56), Engineering Officer on USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG 58), Engineering Officer on USS Vicksburg (CG 69), and as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer on USS Detroit Blue (LCS 7). While in command of USS Detroit (LCS 7) his ship deployed to C4F, successfully interdicting over 1700 Kgs of illicit narcotics. The crew earned its first Battle E for outstanding performance during the 2020 campaign.
Ashore, he served as Information Superiority Operations Officer at U.S. Southern Command - Standing Joint Force Headquarters, Section Head at OPNAV N130, Flag Aide to Director, Navy Staff, Commander Naval Surface Forces Atlantic N46 Assistant Chief of Staff for Current Readiness and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff J7 Deployable Training Division Chief.
He currently serves as Commanding Officer on USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28). His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (1 Gold Star), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 Gold Stars), Navy Achievement Medal, and various other personal and unit citations
