Cmdr. Rory M. Larson graduated in 2008 from Frostburg State University with a Bachelor's degree in History. He received his commission from Officer Candidate School at Officer Training Command, Newport in March 2010. He graduated from Joint Professional Military Education (Phase 1) in June 2017.
At sea, he served aboard USS McCampbell (DDG-85) as Auxiliaries Officer forward deployed in Yokosuka, Japan, and supported Operation TOMODACHI. He also served on the USS Oak Hill (LSD-51) as the Assistant Operations Officer, based out of Little Creek, Virginia. For his department head tours, he served as Operations Officer on USS Sentry (MCM-3) in Bahrain, Plans and Tactics Officer on USS Fort McHenry (LSD-43) in Mayport, Flordia, and Operations Officer on USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7) in Norfolk, Virginia, where he supported Non-Combatant Evacuation Operations in Afghanistan. Most recently, he completed an Individual Augmentee deployment as the CJ33 Plans Chief for Combined Joint Task Force - Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
Ashore, Larson served as a Naval Science Instructor and Class Officer at Officer Training Command, in Newport, Rhode Island, and served as a Mariner Skills Week Assessor at Afloat Training Group, in Norfolk, Virginia.
Larson currently serves as the executive officer of USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81), stationed in Mayport, Florida.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various campaign, service, and unit awards.
