CMDCM Tarah M. Horney

CMDCM Horney, a native of Moses Lake, WA, joined the Navy April 3, 2002 and graduated from Machinery Repairman “A” School in Great Lakes, IL. She was selected for the Command Master Chief Program in March of 2022.
CMDCM Horney assumed the duties as Command Master Chief, Commander, Naval Surface Group Central on May 9, 2025.
Her operational tours include USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) as the Machine Shop Leading Petty Officer, USS SHILOH (CG 67) as Repair Division Leading Chief Petty Officer, and 3MC on USS CARNEY (DDG 64).
Her previous Command Master Chief tour was on board USS PAUL IGNATIUS (DDG 117).
Her shore tours include MR Detailer at Navy Personnel Command, Code 940 Leading Chief Petty Officer at Southeast Regional Maintenance Center, and 3M Team Lead at Afloat Training Group Western Pacific.
She is a graduate of Advanced Machining “C” School, 3MC School, Senior Enlisted Academy Class 202 (Brown Group), CMC/COB course, Major Command CMC course, is a licensed locksmith, and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Literature from Thomas Edison State College. She is qualified Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Leader Development facilitator and is the recipient of several personal and unit awards, the five Battle “E” awards of which she is most proud.
