Master Chief Chelsea Turner, a native of Florida began her naval career in August 2001 when she reported to Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes, Illinois. After graduating Recruit Training in October 2001, she continued to Hospital Corpsman “A” School in IL. She deployed in 2003 with Fleet Hospital 15 to Kuwait during the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon returning from deployment, she continued to Preventive Medicine (PMT) “C” School in San Diego California.
In 2004 upon graduating, she received orders to the Washington Navy Yard, Branch Medical Clinic, in Washington D.C where she deployed with the Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 472 - (Rein) to Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While deployed she earned her Fleet Marine Force designation. Upon returning, she was chosen to participate in a joint exercise with the USPHS and British Navy onboard the USNS COMFORT (TAH-20) responding to international emergencies.
In 2007, she began an 18-month tour on the USS BATAAN (LHD 5). While there, completed her second Bachelors of Science in Environmental Management from University of Maryland University College. In Oct 2009, Master Chief reported to the Navy Environmental & Preventive Medicine Unit Two in Norfolk VA and was soon dispatched January 2010 with the Forward Deployed Preventive Medicine Unit (FDPMU) in support of Operation Unified Response after a 7.0 Earthquake in Port au Prince, Haiti. Upon return, she earned her master’s degree in emergency Disaster Relief from Trident University and again deployed in the fall of 2010 with Expeditionary Medicine Facility (Kilo) (FDPMU Detachment) to Camp Buehring, Kuwait in support of Operation New Dawn.
In 2012, she transferred to the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), which had just completed a 5-year (RCOH) as Medical Department’s Leading Petty Officer. After a successful INSURV, she promoted to Chief Petty Officer and participated in the 2015 deployment, homeport change, and first three carrier Hull Swap. Senior Chief Petty Officer Turner obtained her second master’s in occupational health & safety from Columbia Southern University and earned her Surface, Aviation, and Information Warfare Qualifications while also qualifying as Anti-terrorism Watch Officer (ATTWO).
In Jan 2016, she reported to Navy Medical Training Support Command as the Leading Chief Petty Officer and Navy Senior Enlisted Lead of the Preventive Medicine Specialist Program. During her tenure, she facilitated the program becoming the first under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2017 to graduate students with an Associate Degree from the College of Allied Health Sciences.
In Jan 2019, Master Chief Turner reported to the USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER (CVN 69) as the senior Preventive Medicine Technician and the Medical Department Leading Chief Petty Officer completing two COVID deployments. She was promoted to Senior Chief and hand selected as the Habitability Lead for berthing and sanitation spaces on board during the ships mid-cycle Planned Incremental Availability (PIA). In Sept 2022, Master Chief Turner reported to the Navy Environmental & Preventive Medicine Unit SEVEN in Rota, Spain to serve as the Senior Enlisted Leader. While stationed there she was screened for Master Chief Petty Officer. In Jan 2024 Master Chief Turner reported to EMF-Kilo to serve as their Command Master Chief.
In May 2025 Master Chief Turner reported to the USS Carter Hall to serve as their Command Master Chief.
Master Chief Turner is a graduate of the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 40), Senior Enlisted Academy Class 214 (Purple), a qualified Master Training Specialist, and certified Resilience-Building Leader Program trainer. Her personal and unit awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy Achievement Medals (five awards), Good Conduct Medal (six awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service medal (two awards), Army Achievement medal, Presidential Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and various service and campaign awards.
