Commander Jonathan “Andrew” Grant is a native of Athens, GA. He graduated from The Naval Academy Prep School in 2005 and earned his commission from the United States Naval Academy in 2009. In Annapolis he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Political Science and was elected captain of the track team senior year.
Upon commissioning, CDR Grant reported to USS RUSSELL (DDG 59) home ported in Pearl Harbor, HI. He served as 1
st Lieutenant. While on board, he completed 2 BMD deployments to the Arabian Gulf and earned his Surface Warfare Officer qualifications.
In 2012 CDR Grant reported to the staff of Commander, Task Force 52 (CTF 52) in Manama, Bahrain as Assistant Operations Officer / Future Operations Officer. As a Battle Watch Captain, he helped plan and execute 13 international exercises.
CDR Grant transferred to the Training and Administration of the Reserves (TAR) Community in 2013 and was assigned to Coastal Riverine Squadron ONE at Naval Air Station North Island. At CRS-1, he served as the Assistant Operations Officer for the squadron headquarters. There he coordinated security escorts for all High Value Units arriving and departing San Diego harbor. He also coordinated the training and certification of 5 Riverine Company SELRES mobilizations to the port of Dijibouti in the horn of Africa.
In 2017 he reported to the USS MILWAUKEE (LCS 5) in Mayport, FL to serve as the Combat Systems Officer. While onboard he was the lead planner for the ship’s Final Contractor Trials (FCT) and Combat System Ship Qualification Trials (CSSQT). As the Tactical Action Officer, he planned and executed the first fully integrated firings of the Longbow Hellfire Missile on a Littoral Combat Ship.
In 2019 He reported to USS BILLINGS Gold Crew (LCS 15) to serve as the Operations Officer. On BILLINGS he coordinated the crew training work ups for the ship’s maiden deployment to the 4th Fleet AOR.
In 2022, CDR Grant earned his Masters of Business Administration in Financial Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
In 2023, CDR Grant took command of Navy Reserve Center Columbia, SC supporting over 150 Navy Reservists providing strategic depth to the Navy and supporting worldwide mobilizations.
In 2024, CDR Grant reported to Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System, Poland as Executive Officer.
CDR Grant is authorized to wear the Surface Warfare Officer insignia. His military decorations include the Navy Achievement Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, and the Navy Commendation Medals.
