Command Master Chief Slade is originally from Tifton, Georgia. He reported to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, in May 2002 and began his career as a Seaman Recruit. After graduating from basic training, he attended Seaman Apprenticeship Training and later converted to the Master at Arms rating.  
 
At Sea, he has served at many different operational commands: USS SIMPSON (FFG 56), Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron Seven (MSRON 7), USS FRANK CABLE (AS 40).
 
In July 2005, he volunteered for an Individual Augmentee in support of Detainee Operations at JTF Guantanamo Bay. In January 2008, he deployed with U.S. CENTCOM in support of Operations IRAQI Freedom, Vigilant Mariner, and Native Furry.
 
His shore tours include Naval Air Station Key West, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Naval Support Activity Bahrain, and Naval Station Mayport.
 
His Command Senior Enlisted Leader tours include USS ST. LOUIS (LCS 19) and USS MASON (DDG 87).
 
Command Master Chief Slade is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 229/Orange), CMC/COB (Class 226), and has an Associate Degree in Emergency Management/Homeland Security from Coastline Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Emergency and Disaster Management from American Military University.
 
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), the Combat Action Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal (7 awards), the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the President's Volunteer Service Award, and numerous service and campaign awards.
 
Slade assumed duties as the Command Master Chief of Afloat Training Group Mayport in March 2025.
