CDR Hartford was born and raised in Dover-Foxcroft, ME. He earned his B.S. in Exercise Science from Florida Southern College in 2003 and later went on to earn his M.S. in Exercise Science from American Military University. After spending 5 years in the civilian sector as a Strength and Conditioning Coach to include an internship with the Detroit Tigers Baseball Organization, he applied and was selected to Officer Candidate School where he graduated in 2008.
CDR Hartford’s first DIVO tour was onboard USS DONALD COOK (DDG 75) where he served as the Gunnery/Ordnance Officer and assumed additional duties as Force Protection Officer as well as the VBSS-OIC. His second DIVO tour was with RIVERINE SQUADRON TWO (RIVRON 2) where he was assigned as the Detachment A-OIC and Lead Patrol Officer and later supported the Headquarters element as the Assistant Operations Officer. Following his two DIVO tours, CDR Hartford was assigned to SEAL Team THREE where he was the Current Operations Officer (N-33) as well as the Special Operations Command Crisis Response Element (SOCCRE) Current Operations Officer (J-33).
CDR Hartford’s first Department Head (DH) tour was onboard USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44) where he served as the Plans and Tactics Officer (PTO). Following his first DH tour CDR Hartford reported to USS MESA VERDE (LPD 19) where he served as the PTO. During his time with MESA VERDE, CDR Hartford was selected to assist Expeditionary Strike Group TWO (ESG-2) as the Amphibious Liaison Naval Officer (LNO) to Carrier Strike Group TWO (CSG-2) during BALTOPS-19. CDR Hartford’s follow-on tour was with USS LEWIS B. PULLER (ESB 3) where he served as the Combat Systems Officer. Most recently, CDR Hartford served as the Officer in Charge (OIC) of CENSECFOR DET Chesapeake.
CDR Hartford has received the Arleigh Burke Leadership Award, Riverine Unit Level Leadership Award, Meritorious Service Medal, two Naval Commendation Medals, one Army Commendation Medal, and five Naval Achievement Medals.
