Captain Smith received his commission after graduating from North Carolina State University in 2001. He holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
At sea, Captain Smith served as Electrical Officer and 1
st Lieutenant on USS KAUFFMAN (FFG 59), Fire Control Officer on USS PORTER (DDG 78), Weapons Officer / Combat Systems Officer on USS ANZIO (CG 68), Executive Officer / Commanding Officer of USS SIOUX CITY (LCS 11), Blue Crew.
Ashore, Captain Smith served as the Flag Aide to Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense Program, the Executive Officer to Director, Missile Defense Agency and as the Ballistic Missile Defense Assessments and Training lead at Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center, IAMD. Commanding Officer of Afloat Training Group – Mayport from Jan 2022 to July 2024.
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards) and various service, campaign, and unit awards.
Captain Smith assumed the position of Deputy, Littoral Combat Ship Squadron Two in Jan 2025.
