Command Senior Chief Tanya M. Smith, a native of Gulfport, Mississippi, enlisted in the United States Navy in July 1999. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois she reported to Naval Air Technical Training Center, in Pensacola, Florida where she completed Aviation Apprenticeship Training.
Upon Apprenticeship Training graduation, Command Senior Chief Smith reported for duty onboard the USS BATAAN (LHD5), Norfolk, VA. Her fleet assignments include SEACONRON TWO TWO (VS-22), Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron SEVEN (HS-7), Jacksonville, FL, Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ONE FIVE (VFA-115), Atsugi Japan, Airborne Command and Control Squadron ONE ONE FIVE, (VAW-115), Atsugi Japan, and USS AMERICA (LHA-6), Sasebo Japan. In addition, Command Senior Chief Smith completed her shore assignments at Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Detachment (AIMD) Jacksonville, FL, Recruit Training Command ( RTC), Great Lakes, IL, Patrol And Reconnaissance Squadron THIRTY (VP-30) FRS, Jacksonville FL, and Naval Air Training Center (NATTC) Learning Site Meridian AZ “A” School, Meridian MS.
Command Senior Chief Smith was selected for the Command Senior Chief program in 2024. In January 2025, she reported for duty and now serves as the Command Senior Chief onboard USS ST. LOUIS (LCS 19), in Mayport, Florida.
Command Senior Chief Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Human Resource Management from University of Arizona Global. She is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 221, and CMC/COB Course Class 278. Additionally, Senior Chief Smith has earned her Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Informational Dominance Warfare, and Master Training Specialist designations.
Her decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (9 awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
