A native of Macungie, Pennsylvania, Commander Bartholomeaux graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science and earned his commission through Carnegie Mellon University NROTC program. He completed his Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I at the Naval Postgraduate School in 2014 while earning his Master of Arts in Security Studies (Western Hemisphere). He completed JPME Phase II at Joint Forces Staff College as part of Joint and Combined Warfighting School (JCWS) 23-1.
At sea, he served as a weapons and electronic warfare division officer aboard USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52); training officer aboard USS Porter (DDG 78); and weapons officer, plans and tactics officer, and combat systems officer aboard USS Higgins (DDG 76).
His initial shore assignment was at Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, and he completed a follow-on tour at Surface Warfare Officer School, Newport, Rhode Island, where he served as the director of strategic communication and facilities officer. In September 2020, he completed the integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) warfare tactics instructor (WTI) training pipeline and completed a WTI production tour as a lead SWATT planner at Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (NSMWDC) Fleet Training Directorate - Pacific branch. He then served as a joint planner at Joint Task Force-National Capital Region in the plans and operations directorate (J35).
Commander Bartholomeaux’s decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), and various service and campaign awards.
