A native of Columbus, Ohio, Lieutenant Commander Hast graduated from The Ohio State University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Security and Intelligence. He completed his Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2020.
Afloat, Lieutenant Commander Hast completed a single-long Division Officer tour aboard the Amphibious Dock Landing Ship USS OAK HILL (LSD 51) as the Electrical Officer, then Antiterrorism and Assistant Operations Officer where he completed deployments to 4th, 5th, and 6th Fleet. As an afloat Department Head he was assigned to the USS CARTER HALL (LSD-50) as the First Lieutenant where he participated in the delivery of the Navy’s first Ship-to-Shore Connector (SSC), LCAC 100 & 101 and bilateral exercises with NATO partners in amphibious craft proof-of-concept exercises. He was then assigned as the Navigator onboard Amphibious Assault Ship USS WASP (LHD 1) where he served as Force Navigator for the WASP Amphibious Ready Group’s deployment to 6th Fleet including a NATO TOA and BALTOPS exercises. He is currently assigned as Chief Staff Officer of Amphibious Squadron FOUR of JEB Little Creek, VA.
Ashore, Lieutenant Commander Hast served as an instructor at NROTCU Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska and completed the Amphibious Warfare Tactics Instructor (AMW WTI) Course. Following WTI training, he was deployed to SOUTHCOM in support of DESRON 40 where he served as a naval liaison to JTF-Haiti during aid delivery following the 2021 earthquake disaster.
Lieutenant Commander Hast’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards) as well as multiple unit and service awards.
