 Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Commander Dustin Oldfield graduated from University Colorado Boulder with a Bachelors in History.  Dustin obtained his commission as a Naval Officer through the NROTC program at University Colorado Boulder in May 2010.

For his first assignment, Commander Oldfield reported to USS PORTER (DDG 78), homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, June 2010 where he served as the Repair Officer and Electrical Officer.

In January 2013, he transferred to USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) homeported in Bremerton, Washington as one of the Tactical Action Officers (TAO).  Commander Oldfield then transferred to Littoral Combat Ship Squadron Two (LCSRON 2) in August of 2014.  

At LCSRON 2, in Mayport, Florida, he was a plank owner at the command and served as the Assistant Operations Officer (AOPS) supporting LCS programs on the East Coast.  While on shore duty, he earned his Master’s Degree in Management from American Military University with honors.

In September of 2017, he detached LCSRON 2 and began Department Head School in Newport, Rhode Island.  One year later, CDR Oldfield graduated department head school and reported to USS SOMERSET (LPD 25) as Plans and Tactics Officer (PTO) in October of 2018.

As the first PTO on SOMERSET, Dustin took part in planning integration with multiple Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Forces (SPMAGTF) as part of Littoral Combat Group 1 (LCG1) and other exercises providing proof of concept. 

In November 2020 he reported to USS MAHAN (DDG 72) as the PTO.  During his tour he led Executive, Medical, and Navigation divisions, all future planning, and executed joint integration during MAHAN’s Fifth and Sixth Fleet deployment while earning his TAO letter on a Ballistic Missile Defense platform.  CDR Oldfield received orders to report in October 2022 to USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3) as the Operations Officer.

Onboard USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3) he also served as the Executive Officer (XO) onboard USS NITZE (DDG 94) and USS TORTUGA (LSD 46) filling gapped XO billets.

Commander Oldfield is a qualified Surface Warfare Officer.  His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star, and numerous unit ribbons and awards.
