A native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Commander Tornambe, graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and commisioned in the Navy via Officer Candidate School in 2009. He received a Masters degree in Operational Studies from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Leavenworth, KS in 2022.
Commander Tornambe’s Sea duty assignments as a Division Officer include Combat Electronics Officer and Force Protection Officer in USS MESA VERDE (LPD 19) through two deployments supporting Operation Unified Response and Operation Odyssey Resolve. He volunteered for an Individual Augment billet as Officer in Charge of Tactical Document and Media Exploitation Panjwai Province Afghanistan with 1st Brigade 25th Infantry “Arctic Wolves” and 3rd Brigade 2nd Infantry “Arrowhead Brigade”. His sea duty assignments as a Department Head, include Plans and Tactics Officer and Operations Officer in USS NORMANDY (CG 60) through two deployments supporting Dynamic Force Employment concept of operations and the 5th Fleet Integrated Air and Missile Defense Commander during the U.S. strike on Qasem Soleimani.
Ashore, Commander Tornambe, served in U.S. Africa Command at Stuttgart, Germany as a Joint Operations Planner in the J3 Operations as an Action Officer then Lead Planner until departing as Executive Assistant to the Director and Deputy Director for Operations. He served in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) at the Pentagon as the Deputy Executive Assistant to the Director of Navy Staff. His most recent shore tour was at North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command at Colorado Springs, CO as a Program analyst, Aide de Camp and Speechwriter to the Commander.
Commander Tornambe, graduated Basic Airborne Parachutists School in 2014. His personal decorations and awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), Army Commendation Medal (2 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal (2 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), 2010 Peer Selected, CNSL presented, Navy and Marine Corps Association Leadership award, the 2018 Carrier Strike Group Eight and Surface Force Atlantic Junior Officer Excellence in Tactics award, as well as numerous unit, service, and campaign awards.
