A 2006 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Cmdr. Grey earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture. He is originally from East Orange, New Jersey.
A career surface warfare officer, Commander Grey’s sea duty assignments include Combat Information Center Officer aboard USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55), Main Propulsion Assistant and Navigator aboard USS WHIDBEY ISLAND (LSD 41), Chief Engineer aboard USS BAINBRIDGE (DDG 96), Chief Engineer USS MESA VERDE (LPD 19), Deputy Maintenance and Materiel Officer (N43A) and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Officer in Expeditionary Strike Group 2 and deployed with Amphibious Squadron 8 as Senior Operations Planner (N3). While serving at Expeditionary Strike Group 2, he was hand selected to serve as Chief Engineer aboard USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44) during the ship’s deployment to U.S. 4th Fleet. He recently served as Executive Officer in USS CARTER HALL (LSD 50).
Ashore, he earned a Master of Science in Applied Physics from the Naval Postgraduate School. He served as an Instructor of Advanced Ship-handling and Tactics (ASAT), Navigation, and Rules of the Road at Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport, Rhode Island. He also served as the Section Head for Rotating Radars, EO/IR Sensors and Navigation Systems for the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Surface Warfare Division (OPNAV N96C).
His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal (three awards) and various campaign, unit and service awards.
