A native of Fayetteville, NC, Commander Pia Chapman graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.
CDR Chapman completed her division officer tours aboard the USS CARNEY (DDG 64) as the Strike Officer and USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53) as the Fire Control Officer. She served her Department Head tours as Operations Officer in USS BAINBRIDGE and USS MOBILE BAY from 2016-2019.
During her sea tours, she made multiple deployments, including one as an independent Ballistic Missile Defense deployer, to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and served as the Air and Missile Defense Liaison for the JOHN C STENNIS Strike Group.
Ashore, she served as a Naval Liaison Officer for the U.S. House of Representatives from 201l- 2014 as well as Flag Aide to the Chief of Legislative Affairs. She served as Navigation Assessment Team lead for Commander, Naval Surface Force Pacific and Deputy Executive Assistant to Commander, Naval Surface Forces and Surface Officer Placement Branch Head in PERS 41. She earned a Masters in National Security Affairs from the Navy War College with a focus on Asian-Pacific Studies and completed the Naval War College Non-resident Program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I.
CDR Chapman is a recipient of various personal and unit level awards.
