Born and raised in upstate New York, Lieutenant Commander Day graduated from Rhodes College in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in History. He earned his commission in 2013 from the Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island.
Afloat, LCDR Day served as the Communications Officer onboard USS HOPPER (DDG 70), then as Assistant Operations Officer for AMPHIBIOUS SQUADRON ELEVEN (CPR 11). During his initial tours, he deployed to U.S Fifth and Seventh Fleet areas of responsibility while earning his Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) qualification. As Department Head, he served on USS SENTRY (MCM 3) as the Operations Officer, where he led the ship through various Fifth Fleet operations while forward deployed to Manama, Bahrain. LCDR Day currently serves as the Executive Officer onboard USS DEVASTATOR (MCM 6).
Ashore, LCDR Day served as Operations Officer for Sixth Fleet’s MCM Detachment Rota (CTG 68.3) where he developed advanced Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) capabilities with U.S. and NATO partners.
LCDR Day received the 2022 Surface Navy Association Arleigh Burke Award for operational excellence. His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), and various deployment, unit and service awards
