James Walker is a native of Petal, Mississippi. He enlisted in the Navy in 1999 and served as a Boatswain’s Mate aboard USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54). He was accepted into the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) Program and was commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer in 2004.
He graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Art degree in History and holds Master’s Degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in National Security Affairs.
Sea Duty Assignments include: Work Center Supervisor in USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54), First Lieutenant and Combat Information Center Officer in USS SIMPSON (FFG 56), Damage Control Assistant in USS BAINBRIDGE (DDG 96), DET 3 Officer in Charge (OIC) for Riverine Squadron ONE, Chief Engineer in USS NITZE (DDG 94), Staff Director and Material Officer (N4) in Destroyer Squadron TWO, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer in USS RAMAGE (DDG 61), and Surface Operations Officer for Carrier Strike Group TWO.
Shore Duty Assignments include: Project Officer for Engineering Assessments Atlantic, and Project Officer (N44) for Commander, Naval Surface Force Atlantic.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2) as well as various personal, campaign, and unit awards.
CDR Walker assumed command of Engineering Assessment Atlantic (EAA) in May 2024.
