Captain Raul “Stiny” Acevedo is a native of Los Angeles, California. He is a 2001 graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a 2023 graduate of Old Dominion University with a Master in Business Administration.
Captain Acevedo received his wings of gold as a Naval Flight Officer in 2003 and was designated as an F/A-18F Weapons Systems Officer. His operational tours were VFA-154 Black Knights, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; VFA-2 Bounty Hunters, deploying in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn; VFA-11 Red Rippers, deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; VFA-211 Checkmates serving as Commanding Officer, deploying in support of Operation Inherent Resolve; and as Executive Officer of USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74).
Shore assignments include the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) as a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor at Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific; the Joint Staff Operations Directorate (J-35) for Regional Operations and Force Management; and as a Federal Executive Fellow at Georgia Tech’s Sam Nunn School of International Affairs.
Captain Acevedo has accumulated more than 3,200 flight hours and 700 carrier arrested landings. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and numerous campaign and service awards.
