CAPT Diaz enlisted in the Navy as an Electronics Technician in 1988. After advancing to Electronics Technician First Class, he was accepted to the Enlisted Commissioning Program and attended the University of Minnesota. Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer.
His sea tours include: 1st Lieutenant and Ordnance Officer onboard USS INGRAHAM (FFG 61); Navigator onboard USS McFAUL (DDG 74); Chief Engineer onboard USS DONALD COOK (DDG 75); Commanding Officer of Patrol Coastal Crew India, while with Crew India he commanded USS MONSOON (PC 4), USS CHINOOK (PC 9), USS SQUALL (PC 7), and USS TEMPEST (PC 2); additionally, he served as Assistant Chief of Staff Officer for Material and Logistics for Commander Carrier Strike Group Eight; Executive Officer for USS STOUT (DDG 55); Commanding Officer for USS STOUT (DDG 55); and Commanding Officer for USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55).
His shore tours include: Training Liaison Officer at Afloat Training Group, Norfolk Va; Project Officer for the Material Standards Assessment Group for Commander Naval Surfaces Forces Atlantic; Executive Assistant for Commander Military Sealift Command; and Maritime Syndicate Lead for Commander Carrier Strike Group Four.
