Command Senior Chief Dawn Turner was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. She enlisted in the United States Navy in May of 2000 and attended Fireman Apprenticeship Training at Service School Command, Great Lakes. Her duty assignments include USS EMORY S. LAND (AS-39) where she reported as an undesignated fireman and later struck for the Machinist’s Mate rating. She was assigned to the Main Propulsion Division and served as an Engineering Training Team member and advanced to Petty Officer Third Class.
She reported to USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69) in 2004, where she was assigned to the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration shop and served as the Work Center Supervisor. There she earned her Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist designations and advanced to the rank of Second Class Petty Officer.
Upon completion of her tour onboard CVN-69, in 2006 she reported to Pre-Commissioning Unit GEORGE H. W. BUSH (CVN-77). She served as the Leading Petty Officer (LPO) for multiple Auxiliary Divisions work centers and served as Charlie Section Watch Commander in Security Division. She is a proud plank owner of the USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH (CVN-77). Onboard she advanced to First Class Petty Officer and earned her Associates Degree in Applied Marine Biology.
She reported to USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) in April of 2017. She was the Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO) for multiple Reactor Department work centers, and served as the Divisional LCPO for Centralized Work Controls Center. She was selected to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, making her the only female Senior Chief onboard the ship, and 1 of 3 female MMCS in the Navy.
Her shore duty assignments include Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA), Ingleside, TX, Training Support Center (TSC), Great Lakes, IL, Surface Warfare Officer School (SWOS), Enlisted Site, Norfolk, VA, and Naval Leadership and Ethics Center, Dam Neck, VA.
In April of 2022 reports as the Command Senior Chief for Beachmaster Unit TWO.
Command Senior Chief Turner’s personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (4), Navy Achievement Medal (4), Good Conduct Medal (7), Flag Letters of Commendation (2), and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
