 CMDCS Shelton is a native of Anniston, AL but he grew up in Pensacola, FL. He graduated from Woodham High School in 2005 and enlisted in the United States Navy on 31 August 2005. He attended basic training at RTC and Seaman Apprentice Training at NTC Great Lakes, IL.

Upon completion of Seaman Apprentice Training, his first duty station was onboard USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) stationed in Sasebo, Japan. While onboard Harpers Ferry he struck Postal Clerk and then PTS into Operations Specialist. Upon Completion of OS “A” School he was retoured on Harpers Ferry where he spent a total of 6 years and conducted Hull Swap with USS Germantown (LSD 42) in Sasebo, Japan where he participated in OPERATION TOMODOCHI.

He transferred in May of 2012 to JIATF-South in Key West, FL where he worked as a Surface Tactical Action Officer and Lead Trainer for Counter Narco-Terrorism Operations for OPERATION MARTILLO.

In August of 2015, he reported to USS Antietam (CG 54) in Yokosuka, Japan and was pinned to Chief in 2017. He served as OI Division LCPO, Anti-Air warfare Coordinator, and Senior ASTAC while onboard.

He reported to CNSG Western Pacific in Yokosuka, Japan in August of 2018 as Force Operations Specialist and Navigation assessor responsible for manning, training, and maintenance requirements for FDNF-J units.

He transferred to PCU Beloit in September 2021 and assumed the duties of OPS DLCPO and SEL for COMLCSRON TWO Train-to-Qualify. CMDCS Shelton was selected for the CSEL program in March of 2024 and is currently serving as Command Senior Chief onboard USS INDIANAPOLIS (LCS 17).

Senior Chief Shelton holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Criminal Justice: Homeland Security from Liberty University (Summa Cum Laude); he is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 255 and CMC/COB class 267. Additionally, Senior Chief Shelton has earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist.

His personal awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 Awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 Awards). He has earned numerous unit and campaign ribbons and medals.
