A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Master Chief Adrian Zellander graduated from Whitehaven High School and enlisted in 1998. He attended Recruit Training in Great Lakes, Illinois, Nuclear Field Electronics Technician "A" School and Nuclear Power School, and qualified as a reactor operator at the S3G prototype in Nuclear Power Training Unit in Charleston, South Carolina.
After completing his first sea duty assignment aboard the Pre-Commissioning Unit Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), he converted to conventional Surface Electronics Technician and completed several follow-on “C” schools.
His other assignments include USNS Leroy Grumman; USS Stump (DD 978); USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71); Naval Telecommunications Master Station Atlantic in Norfolk Virginia; USS Wasp (LHD 1); USS Unit Arlington (LPD 24) (Plank Owner); USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109); Afloat Training Group Norfolk; USS San Antonio (LPD 17); and USS Kearsarge (LHD 3). Command Master Chief, USS Porter (DDG 78).
While assigned to Afloat Training Group Norfolk Master Chief Zellander volunteered for an arduous Individual Augment assignment in support of a Joint Special Operations Task Force conducting SOF and Maritime Security Operations in the AFRICOM and CENTCOM AORs.
He is a graduate of the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy Class 217 (Red) and the Command Master Chief / Chief of the Boat Course 24030. He holds an Associate of Applied Science in Technical Studies from Excelsior College with a focus in Electronic Instrumentation Systems. He is qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Afloat Training Specialist, and Master Training Specialist.
Master Chief Zellander's personal awards include the Department of Defense Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and various service and campaign awards.
