 A native of Brunswick, Georgia, Lieutenant Commander Cason graduated from the University of South Florida in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology. 
 
Afloat, Lieutenant Commander Cason completed his division officer tours aboard USS BOONE (FFG 28) as the Administration Officer and Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and aboard USS SIMPSON (FFG 56) as Navigator.  As a division officer, he made three deployments, first to the Gulf of Aden for a Standing NATO Maritime Group ONE in support of Operations Ocean Shield and Active Endeavor.  Second, to SOUTHCOM AOR for a UNITAS LANT/PAC Southern Seas deployment and to end his division officer deployments he went back to AFRICOM AOR in support of African Partnership Station.  Lieutenant Commander Cason’s department head tours were aboard USS DEWEY (DDG 105) as Operations/Plans and Tactics Officer and as Operations Officer aboard USS LAKE ERIE (CG 70).  He deployed to C7F ISO WASP Expeditionary Strike Group 18.1 and to C7F ISO CPF UNSCR Enforcement Coordination Cell operations.  Additionally he participated in RIMPAC 2018 and 2020.  LCDR Cason is currently the Executive Officer onboard USS LASSEN (DDG 82).    
 
Ashore, Lieutenant Commander Cason graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School earning a Master of Science degree in Physical Oceanography and associated sub-specialty in Undersea Warfare as well as completed the Naval War College Non-resident Program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I.  Lieutenant Commander Cason received the Surface Navy Association Award for Academic Excellence in Surface Warfare for his thesis work in “Continuous Acoustic Sensing with an Unmanned Air Vehicle System for Anti-Submarine Warfare in a High-Threat Area.”  Lieutenant Commander Cason is also a graduate of the Maritime Staff Operators Course (MSOC) and USW Command Course.  Lieutenant Commander Cason is an Anti-Submarine/Anti-Surface Warfare Tactics Instructor and just completed his production tour at NSMWDC Surface Advanced Warfighting School (SAWS).
 
Lieutenant Commander Cason’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards) as well as multiple unit and service awards.  He is married and has three children
