Command Master Chief Russell M. Wood is a native of Paducah, Kentucky. He enlisted in the United States Navy in October 1999 and attended basic training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon completion of basic training, he attended Aviation Maintenance Administrationman “A” School at Naval Air Station Meridian, Mississippi. During 2002, he converted to the Master-at-Arms rating and attended MA “A” School at Lackland AFB, Texas. In 2020, he was selected for the Command Senior Chief Program.
His previous duty assignments include VF-101 Virginia Beach, VA; Naval Support Activity Naples, Italy; Naval Recruiting District Nashville, TN; Naval Station Rota, Spain; VQ-4 Detachment Patuxent River, MD; USS GEORGE WASHINTON (CVN 73); USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76); Naval Air Station Kingsville, TX; Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia; Military Entrance Processing Station Memphis, TN and Naval Support Activity Mid-South, Millington, TN.
In November 2023, Command Master Chief Wood reported to the USS JASON DUNHAM (DDG 109) and currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. He is a graduate of the US Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 216 (Green) and Coastline Community College earning an Associate Degree in Arts.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and numerous unit and campaign awards.
