A 2006 graduate of the Seaman to Admiral program from The Citadel, Commander Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. He is originally from Summerland Key, Florida.
A career surface warfare officer, Commander Smith’s shipboard assignments include; USS VELLA GULF (CG 72) as Strike Officer and Navigator; USS ANZIO (CG 68) as Weapons and Combat Systems Officer, and USS TRUXTUN (DDG 103) as Executive Officer.
Ashore, he served as Strike Officer for Commander U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and Assistant Strike Officer for Commander U.S. Second Fleet and Commander U.S. Fleet Forces Command. He was a Military Analyst for the Joint Staff J-7 Joint Lessons Learned Division and Futures and Concepts Division. Most recently, he completed his Master’s Degree in Defense and Strategic Studies at the U.S. Naval War College in addition to the Maritime Advanced Warfighting School.
His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medals, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
