Commander Ashley Carline is a native of San Diego, California. She was commissioned in 2007 and graduated from the United States Naval Academy, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Economics. She holds a Master of Science degree in Operations Research and earned her Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I from Naval Postgraduate School. Following Postgraduate studies, she attended Defense Language Institute, where she completed the French curriculum.
Her sea assignments as a Surface Warfare Officer include Ordnance and Force Protection Officer aboard USS Bunker Hill (CG 52) and Assistant Future Plans and Operations Officer (N5A) for Amphibious Squadron Five (CPR 5). As USS Bunker Hill executed the inaugural cruiser modification she deployed to 7th fleet in support of USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53). While serving with CPR 5 embarked on USS New Orleans (LPD 19), she deployed to 4th fleet in support of Operation Southern Partnership, U.S. 3rd Fleet. She served both of her department head tours as Engineer Officer. On USS PREBLE (DDG 88) she led the department through an extended CNO and Selected Restricted Availability followed by Basic Phase with successful completion of Engineer and Damage Control Mobility Certifications. On JOHN P MURTHA (LPD 26) she led the department through Final Contract Trials and a Post- Shakedown Availability, guiding the ship through the transition from the new construction process to Tier 1 Mobility Certification.
Her shore assignments include Flag Aide to the 31st and 32nd Chief of Naval Operations; Defense Legislative Fellow for the office of Senator Shaheen who was a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee for the legislation of Fiscal Year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act; White House Social Aide, and Executive Officer of Mariner Skills Training Center Atlantic.
She has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards).
