A native of Island Park, New York, CDR Matt Brooks enlisted in the Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician, deploying on the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72). He was selected for the STA-21 commissioning program and graduated from Old Dominion University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.
CDR Brooks’ sea assignments include Machinery Division Officer in USS ASHLAND (LSD 48), Damage Control Assistant in USS BOONE (FFG 28), Engineer Officer in USS CHIEF (MCM 14) and Engineer Officer in USS PORT ROYAL (CG 73). CDR Brooks has completed multiple deployments to the North Atlantic, Western Pacific/Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf.
Ashore, CDR Brooks served as a Surface Warfare Junior Officer Detailer at Naval Personnel Command, OPNAV N801 as a Surface, Amphibious and Auxiliary ship Program Analyst/Section Head, and PMS 406, Unmanned Maritime Systems as the Fleet Introduction Deputy PAPM.
CDR Brooks reported in March 2023 as Executive Officer in PCU JOHN BASILONE (DDG 122).
CDR Brooks holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Financial Management from Naval Postgraduate School in 2014. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with four Gold Stars) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with two Gold Stars).
