A 2007 graduate of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program from SUNY Maritime College, Commander Catalano earned a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and a USCG 3
rd Mate’s License. Later he earned a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, RI thru the Graduate Degree Program.
As a career surface warfare officer, Commander Catalano’s assignments at sea include: USS CARTER HALL (LSD 50) as 2
nd Division Officer and Assistant First Lieutenant, USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55) as Main Propulsion Assistant and Assistant Chief Engineer, USS CARNEY (DDG 64) as Chief Engineer, USS ARLINGTON (LPD 24) as Chief Engineer, and assistant surface operations officer for Carrier Strike Group Eight.
Ashore, he has served as N74 Engineer Cruiser Lead and instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School and an assessor at Engineering Assessments Atlantic.
His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
